Shred the Secrets Room 9 Guide: Green Room & Attic Ladder

Shred the Secrets Room 9 guide with frames: the green room and yellow catwalk, the broken attic ladder, the repair announcement and the Mad Scientist's quest.

Last updated: 2026-09-18

Quick answer

Room 9 is the green-lit floor of Shred the Secrets' [ENDING 3] wing — the first room where the run visibly changes shape: a yellow catwalk crosses above the paper towers, fresh cobwebs take over the railings, and a broken ladder hangs over it all, pointing at the attic. Per our rooms reference, the post-update run counts to twelve (the HUD reads "ROOM 9/12"), the new rooms play for goals as high as $5,000,000, and their paper towers hold about 52 documents each — the August recording's counter runs to /52, a September 16 recording shows /50, so treat the exact total as version-dependent (video-reported). The room's signature move is the ladder: the game teases "I can easily fix this ladder, right?", an OPTIONAL objective asks you to find the missing parts, and repairing it triggers the announcement "The attic has been opened." — climb up and the Mad Scientist is waiting under his PROJECT: CAFFEINE chalkboard with the quest that awards Industrial Revolution (2.7% earn rate, 17,916 awarded in our badge database API snapshot, checked September 2026). Came for how to get into the attic? The one-line version is find parts, repair, climb — the full step-by-step answer stays canonical on our Ending 3 guide, and this page covers the room itself, frame by frame. The Scientist's blueprint hunt and its Handheld Shredder payoff live on Industrial Revolution; the complete 12-room route is in the full walkthrough.

How Room 9 plays out

  1. 1

Arrive from Room 8 into the green wing. Since the July 30 [ENDING 3] update a full run spans 12 rooms (rooms reference), and Room 9 announces itself the moment the counter flips to ROOM 9/12: the lighting goes green, the goal bar overhead climbs to $5,000,000, and the paper towers grow dense enough that the HUD document counter becomes the room's second scoreboard. Our August recording counts the floor in 52 documents; a September 16 recording shows /50 — the exact total is version-dependent, video-reported.

  2. 2

Read the two-level layout. Room 9 stacks a paper-tower floor with a yellow catwalk walkway above it — workbench lamps and shelves sit on both levels, and fresh cobwebs hang off the railings and wall corners. It is the dustiest-looking room on the route, and the cobwebs are set dressing, not a trap.

  3. 3

Look up: the broken ladder is the room's whole secret. Above the catwalk hangs a broken ladder aimed at the attic, and the player character says it for you: "I can easily fix this ladder, right?" Both of our recordings — August and September — trigger the same line, so the game genuinely wants you looking up.

  4. 4

Take the OPTIONAL parts hunt. Approaching the ladder raises an OPTIONAL banner: "Find the missing parts to the ladder to repair it." The missing pieces lie scattered around the room and glow yellow so they read against the green floor — the September recording even points out that the game "shows us on the screen" where they are (video-reported: VitaminSleepy, 2026-09-16).

  5. 5

Repair the ladder and wait for the line. Carry a part back to the ladder, repair it, and the game confirms it in writing: "The attic has been opened." That announcement is the room's payoff — the same words land in both recordings, and the hatch above the catwalk becomes a climbable stairwell into the attic.

  6. 6

Climb up and meet the Mad Scientist. The attic hides an NPC in a lab coat under a chalkboard reading PROJECT: CAFFEINE. He greets you with "Wait — you're not one of them," confesses he had a hand in the sweetener in the coffee downstairs ("Sixteen-hour shifts and nobody complains"), and offers a quest: recover his blueprints — "vital parts of the machine. This room and the next." Completing it awards the Industrial Revolution badge (2.7% / 17,916 awarded, API snapshot September 2026). Blueprint locations and the Handheld Shredder reward are a page of their own: Industrial Revolution — and the full attic-access walkthrough stays canonical on Ending 3.

  7. 7

Clear the quota and push on. The attic is a detour, not a gate — one September run reached the Room 12 vault and banked Whistleblower (Ending 3) without ever finishing the Scientist's quest. The floor itself clears like every other: grab stacks, feed shredders, re-buy your upgrades, then take the dark stairwell past the red blast door. What comes next: the rooms table and the run book in our full walkthrough.

Sources & data notes

Every fact on this page comes from repository data or from the frames themselves. The primary recording is VitaminSleepy, Fall Asleep While I Shred 9,999,999 Papers 😴 (uploaded 2026-09-16 — the newest on-game upload our footage census found, recorded on the current 12-room build after the August 6 [SAVING] update; its HUD reads ROOM 9/12 and its Room 9 counter runs to 50): the entrance lounge (?t=6070), the green-floor towers mid-shred (?t=6585), the broken ladder above the catwalk (?t=6600), the OPTIONAL missing-parts banner (?t=6620), the glowing ladder part (?t=6630), the "The attic has been opened." announcement (?t=6671), the Mad Scientist and his PROJECT: CAFFEINE board (?t=6700) and the blueprint quest line (?t=6735). One cross-source frame comes from Mediastic, Shred the Secrets: Ending 3 + New Rooms! (Roblox) (uploaded 2026-08-01, pre-[SAVING] 12-room build — the recording our rooms table and walkthrough cite for Rooms 8-12): the /52 document counter over the red blast-door stairwell (?t=231) — a second no other page takes from that video (the walkthrough, ending-3, room-12, whistleblower and cake-is-a-lie frames all sit elsewhere). Version note: the /52 counter is the August observation; the September primary shows /50 — treat exact totals as version-dependent. Still UNKNOWN: whether the attic's document counter is separate (the August recording's attic reads /50 against the floor's /52), where the ladder parts spawn and whether the spots shuffle between runs (the September recording shows them highlighted on screen), and whether the repair interacts with the room's exit quota. Scope guards: the attic-access walkthrough stays on Ending 3, the Scientist's quest steps on Industrial Revolution, and the vault finale on Room 12.
